Derating Factors for Bundling of Single Core Cables per JASO D609
As the number of cables bundled together increases, the current capacity of each cable in the bundle decreases as per the following chart.
Cable Bundle Qty = Derating Factor for 8 B&S
1 x Cable = 100% capacity (74amp)
2 x Cables = 80% capacity (59amp)
3 x Cables = 70% capacity (52amp)
4 x Cables = 60% capacity (44amp)
5 x Cables = 55% capacity (40amp)
6 x Cables = 50% capacity (37amp)
7 x Cables = 50% capacity (37amp)
Derating Factors for Ambient Temperatures °C per JASO D609
As the ambient temperature increases, the current capacity of the cable decreases as per the following chart.
Ambiebt Temperature °C = Derating Factor for 8 B&S
30°C = 100% capacity (74amp)
40°C = 90% capacity (66amp)
50°C = 76% capacity (56amp)
60°C = 60% capacity (44amp)
70°C = 45% capacity (33amp)

Voltage Drop for 8 B&S Cable:
To calculate the voltage drop of 8 B&S copper cable, use the following formula:
Voltage Drop = Length x Current x 0.017
Length = Total length of cable in metres.
Current = Current draw (amps) through the cable.
Area = Cross sectional area of the copper (in this case 7.71mm²)
Formula only applies to copper at 25°C, voltage drop increases with both ambient and cable temperature, at approx 0.4% per °C.
0.017 - This multiplication factor only applies to copper
Example for 8 B&S:
How much voltage drop over 10m of 8 B&S with a current draw of 74A?
- 10m x 74A x 0.017 = 12.58
Divide this by 7.71 (cross sectional area of 8 B&S - mm²)
You will have a drop of approximatley 1.63 Volts over the 10m length
